The city of Split has been awarded again, as in last eight years, three blue flags for quality and clean beaches and marinas. One of the blue flag is awarded for ACI marina in Split, second one for beach at Hotel “Split” and third blue flag has been awarded for beach ” Bacvice” too.

To get an exclusive eco-label Blue Flag beaches or marinas has to satisfy twenty two criteria covering ecological, educational, security and service standards. For 2006 Croatia has been awarded by 103 Blue Flags for various beaches and 19 Blue Flags for it’s marinas.

The Blue Flag is an exclusive eco-label awarded to over 3100 beaches and marinas in 36 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, New Zealand, Canada and the Caribbean in 2006. The Blue Flag Programme is owned and run by the independent non-profit organisation Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

The Blue Flag works towards sustainable development at beaches/marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, and safety and other services.

Bacvice Beach is the closest beach to the centre of Split.

This small sandy beach is located in the Bacvice area of the city, a 10-15 minutes walk from Split’s promenade, the bus and train stations and the ferry terminal.

As well as the small crescent of sand, there is also a large concrete area which is popular with sunbathers and swimmers. While the beach itself is not spectacular, the sea is a lovely turquoise colour and very clean.

The beach is backed by lots of greenery and cafes and restaurants nestled in between the trees and gardens.

Slightly beyond the beach is the Bacvice complex. During the day time this consists of relaxing seaside cafes, restaurants and ice cream parlours. There is also a childrens play area including go karts, trampolines and bouncy castles. By night, the cafes become more lively and a handful of loud bars and discos open up.

Further along the coast you can enjoy a pleasant seaside stroll along the quiet paths or leave your clothes on some of the many rocks and enjoy a dip in the warm sea.

Split is the largest city of Dalmatia and second largest in Croatia. It is a major transit point to Dalmatian islands and other places on the coast. Very beautiful, but somehow hectic city full with travallers on the move.

Split’s main beach is Bacvice, mostly sandy beach famous of “Picigin” game, a game played with a small ball in shallow water. It is urban, central city beach, situated few minutes’ walk south past the railway station. The beach has lifeguards, life-saving equipment, first-aid, facilities for disabled, renting facilities, catering facilities, showers, lockers, recycable waste facilities, parking lot.

Bacvice is backed by a number of restaurants, café bars and nightclubs all lined up and easy to walk to. Club Shakespeare (no it isn’t a theatre) is a famous hangout with dancing untill dawn.

The most convenient, busiest, youngest and sandiest beach is Bacvice Beach right in front of the Bacvice restaurant-nightlife complex. Wide with shallow waters, this beach fills up fast on hot days even though it’s not particularly scenic. You can shower off on the beach and down a cold beer in one of the beachside cafes.
